Experience the magic of Israeli filmmaking as the annual Israeli Film Festival returns to South African screens for yet another captivating round.
From 19 June to 16 July Cinema Nouveau screened by Fish Eagle Brandy filmgoers around the country will be treated to the groundbreaking films from the growing Israeli film industry when the festival kicks off at Cinema Nouveau screened by Fish Eagle Brandy sites in Joburg, Durban, Cape Town and Pretoria.
Audiences in Gauteng will be first to devour the Israeli filmic offerings when the festival opens in Cinema Nouveau screened by Fish Eagle Brandy, Rosebank Mall from 19-25 June. From Gauteng, the festival moves to Durban’s Gateway Theatre of Shopping from 26 June – 2 July. The festival will then move to Cape Town when it opens at the Cavendish Square from 03-09 July and will eventually have its final run in Cinema Nouveau screened by Fish Eagle Brandy in Brooklyn, Pretoria from 09-16 July.
« The festival will feature a fusion of films that reflect the various cultures and subcultures of Israel and dispel the myth and misperception that Israel is an ultra-religious country, » says Sara Gon of the Tararam.
Award-winning director Benny Toraty’s Desperado Square is one such film that portrays a seamless fusion of culture. It depicts the story of Israeli filmmakers who embrace the art of Indian filmmaking and culture by reviving an Indian-made box office hit, Sangam, of yesteryears.
Other films to be screened at the festival include: Lost Islands, winner of multiple awards at the Israeli Film Academy Awards; Zrubavel, winner of Best Film at the Haifa International Film Festival; Shiva-The 7 Days, multiple winner at the Jerusalem International Film Festival & The Golden Palm Awards; King of Beggars, winner of the Golden Remi Award at the Houston World Fest; Someone to Run With, multiple-award winner at the Miami International Film Festival, Jerusalem International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, Atlantic Film Festival, Chicago Israeli Film Festival and International Film Festival of India; Love and Dance, Israeli’s answer to Billy Elliot.
Entrance to the festival is FREE at the above cinemas. Tickets can be picked up at the venue an hour before each show time (Mondays-Sundays only at 17h30 and 20h00).
