Le meilleur endroit où assister à Mwaka Kogwa est le village de Makunduchi, au sud-est de Zanzibar (Ujunga), mais bien d’autres villages le fêtent. Cette manifestation est d’origine zoroastrienne. On brûle des huttes et on organise des combats rituels entre les hommes à coups de bananes, tandis que les femmes chantent dans les champs. Le festival, lié à une tradition d’hospitalité, est ouvert à tous.

The festival is celebrated in many parts of Zanzibar, but it is in Makunduchi, south-eastern Unguja, that the ancient rites are most enthusiastically and elaborately followed. People flock to Makunduchi from all over Tanzania and beyond. Retired president Ali Hassan Mwinyi and former O.A.U.
