A powerful touring exhibition from Magnum Photos featuring almost 100 photographs of some of the most dramatic and iconic moments over 40 years of South Africa’s history, captured by photojournalist Ian Berry.
Written during apartheid’s height, the original text for these images stated:
« What this next, or the following weeks will bring, neither side can predict. But without negotiation, tragic bloodshed can be the only result. »
Berry’s images testify that these words were not heeded. However, images of resistance, struggle and eventual freedom still shine through in this powerful exhibition.
Supporters climb to every vantage point whilst awaiting the arrival of Nelson Mandela in a Natal township.
