BEELD VOOR BEELD is a documentary film festival dealing with cultural diversity. Rooted in visual anthropology, the festival screens documentaries on various (sub-)cultures in a format combining screenings, discussions and seminars on different themes. It offers a meeting place for filmmakers and audiences from different cultural backgrounds. All filmmakers will be present, and much attention is paid to the discussions between them and the audience.
Entry submission is open to every production that either deals with subjects of anthropology, sociology and social issues or fits in with the overall theme.
So films that do not fit in with the overall theme can also be submitted.
A special program of student films will be part of the festival. The section on student films is open to all educational programs on visual anthropology or documentary filmmaking fitting in with the overall format of the festival.
Apart from general film screenings, the 23rd edition will have as its main theme:
After the War
Media in Conflict and Post -Conflict Situations is one of the themes of the UNESCO program
Post-Conflict and Post-Disaster Responses (PCPD). Beeld voor Beeld 2012 connects with this theme with the central issue: how do different cultures cope with the aftermath of armed conflict and how are these processes of dealing with the past, reconciliation and the building of a new democratic society reflected in the media? How do the media contribute to these processes?
The focus in the festival will be on Colombia and Iraq, but we also welcome films from other countries that find or found themselves in a post -conflict situation having to deal with the traumas of the past and the challenges of the future.

AANKONDIGING EN OPROEP TOT INZENDEN FILMS
BEELD VOOR BEELD is een documentaire filmfestival handelend over culturele diversiteit.
Voortgekomen uit de visuele antropologie, vertoont het festival documentaires over uiteenlopende (sub)culturen, en biedt het een ontmoetingsplaats voor filmmakers en publiek met verschillende culturele achtergronden. Het festival biedt een ontmoetingsplaats voor filmmakers en bezoekers met verschillende culturele achtergronden. Alle filmmakers zijn aanwezig, en er wordt veel aandacht besteed aan de discussie tussen hen en het publiek.
Inschrijving staat open voor iedere productie die zich bezighoudt met cultuur, beeldvorming en/of sociale vraagstukken, of die past binnen het thema van het festival.
Ook films die niet in het thema passen komen voor selectie in aanmerking.
Tevens zal er een sectie gewijd zijn aan studentenfilms. Dit onderdeel staat open voor alle opleidingen visuele antropologie en andere documentaire filmopleidingen voor zover de films binnen het algemene kader van het festival passen.
Naast algemene thema’s met betrekking tot culturele diversiteit, zal tijdens de 23e editie uitgebreid aandacht besteed worden aan het thema: Na de Oorlog
Het thema Media in Conflict and Post -Conflict Situations is een van de speerpunten van het UNESCO themaprogramma Post-Conflict and Post-Disaster Responses (PCPD). Beeld voor Beeld 2012 sluit hierbij aan met als centrale vraagstelling: hoe worden in verschillende culturen in de periode na een gewapend conflict processen van traumaverwerking, verzoening en het bouwen aan een nieuwe maatschappij weergegeven in de media? Hoe dragen de media bij aan deze processen?
Kernlanden in het festival zijn Colombia en Irak, maar ook films uit andere landen die zich in een post -conflict situatie bevinden zijn welkom.
