Solo exhibition of photographic installation and video

BIOGRAPHY
Being born a year after Zimbabwe's independence, Chiurai is part of what is known as the "Born-Free generation" on the African continent.
In his multimedia compositions, Kudzanai Chiurai tackles the most pertinent issues facing his generation of southern Africans, from government corruption to xenophobia and displacement. The first black recipient of a BFA from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Chiurai mines the words and images of inner city Johannesburg to produce bold paintings that confront the viewer with explicit messages about black empowerment and urban rejuvenation. An increasingly important figure in African Art, Chiurai has held numerous solo exhibitions, among others ‘State of the Nation’, Goodman Gallery project space, Arts on Main, Johannesburg (2011); ‘The Harvest of Thorns’, The Assylem Atelje, Johannesburg (2012) and ‘Front Page’, Mallorca Landings, Spain (2013).
He also has participated in international exhibitions such as the Cairo Biennial, Cairo (2010); ‘Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography’, Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2011); dOCUMENTA 13, Kassel (2012) and ‘eMerging: Visual Art and Music in a Post-Hip-Hop Era’, MoCADA – the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, New York (2013).
His exhibition showing the photographic installation Revelations and the video work Moyo is Kudzanai Chiruai first showing in Mozambique, presented under Associação–Kulungwana's cultural exchange program.
Kudzanai will be in attendance for the exhibition and give a presentation on Thursday 22 October at 10.30 at Galeria "Sala de Espera" Associação Kulungwana, Estação Central dos CFM, Praça dos Trabalhadores, Maputo.

A Galeria Kulungwana, Estação Central dos CFM, acolhe a partir de 22 de Outubro uma exposição individual do artista Zimbabweano Kudzanai Chiurai.
Tendo nascido um ano depois da independência do Zimbabwe, Chiurai faz parte da que é conhecida como “geração nascida em liberdade” no continente Africano.
Nas suas composições multimédia, Kudzanai Chiurai combate as questões mais pertinentes enfrentadas pela sua geração de africanos do sul, da corrupção do governo à xenofobia e deslocamento. Primeiro negro a receber um BFA atribuído pela Universidade de Pretória na África do Sul, Chiurai explora as palavras e imagens do centro da cidade de Johannesburg para produzir pinturas arrojadas que confrontam o observador com mensagens explícitas sobre o empoderamento negro e o rejuvenescimento urbano. Uma figura crescentemente importante da Arte Africana, Chiurai realizou numerosas exposições individuais, entre as quais “State of the Nation”, espaço do projecto da Goodman Galery, Arts on Main, Johannesburg (2011); ‘The Harvest of Thorns’, The Assylem Atelje, Johannesburg (2012) e ‘Front Page’, Mallorca Landings, Espanha (2013).
Tem também participado em exposições internacionais como a Bienal do Cairo, Cairo (2010); ‘Figures & Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography’, Museu Victoria e Albert, Londres (2011); dOCUMENTA 13, Kassel (2012) e ‘eMerging: Visual Art and Music in a Post-Hip-Hop Era’, MoCADA – Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, Nova York (2013).
A sua exibição mostrando a instalação fotográfica Revelações e o trabalho em vídeo Moyo é a primeira exposição de Kudzanai Chiurai em Moçambique, apresentada no âmbito do programa de intercâmbio cultural da Associação Kulungwana.
Kudzanai estará presente na exposição e fará uma apresentação no dia 22 de Outubro, Quinta-Feira as 10h30, na Galeria "Sala de Espera" da Associação Kulungwana, na Estação Central dos CFM, Praça dos Trabalhadores, Maputo.
A exposição abre no dia 22 de Outubro às 18h00 e estará patente até 21 de Novembro.
