Depuis 2020, la thématique URBAN AFRICA, URBAN MOVIES place l’Afrique urbaine et ses réflexions cinématographiques dans le cinéma africain actuel au centre d’un programme prévu pour quatre ans.
Les cinéastes africains* fournissent la matière pour des débats d’émancipation et d’autonomisation sur les questions d’avenir pertinentes de notre époque – de la question de savoir comment les habitants du Sud mondial souhaitent vivre à l’avenir jusqu’à la discussion sur les conséquences de la numérisation, de la mise en réseau et du développement social dans une perspective africaine. À quoi pourrait ressembler un monde futur polycentrique et interconnecté, dans lequel les centres innovants du monde ne se trouvent plus seulement en « Occident », mais aussi dans le Sud global, dans les métropoles africaines ?
« Afrikamera 2023 : Urban Africa – Urban Movies : Future & Utopias » présente une sélection de visions (d’avenir) cinématographiques issues des métropoles du continent africain, qui imaginent un avenir au-delà des modèles de représentation occidentaux. En outre, on pourra voir des films phares récents qui ont été présentés en avant-première et primés dans de grands festivals internationaux comme Cannes et Sundance, notamment la production nigériane MAMI WATA (Nigeria, France 2023) de C. J.’Fiery’ Obasi et BANEL & ADAMA (Sénégal 2023) de Ramata-Toulaye Sy.
Outre le Kino Arsenal et le BrotfabrikKino, le fsk Kino et le Sinema Transtopia ont pu être choisis comme lieux du festival.

Since 2020, the thematic focus URBAN AFRICA, URBAN MOVIES has placed urban Africa and its cinematic reflection in current African cinema at the center of a four-year program.
African filmmakers provide the material for emancipation and empowerment debates on the relevant future issues of our time – from the question of how people in the Global South would like to live in the future to the discussion on the consequences of digitalization, networking and social development from an African perspective. What might a polycentric, networked world of the future look like, in which the world’s innovative centers are no longer located only in the « West » but also in the Global South, in African metropolises?
« Africamera 2023: Urban Africa – Urban Movies: Future & Utopias » presents a selection of cinematic (future) visions from the metropolises of the African continent that imagine a future beyond Western patterns of imagination. It will also feature recent film highlights that have premiered and won awards at major international festivals such as Cannes and Sundance, including the Nigerian production MAMI WATA (Nigeria, France 2023) by C. J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi and BANEL & ADAMA (Senegal 2023) by Ramata-Toulaye Sy.
In addition to Kino Arsenal and BrotfabrikKino, fsk Kino and Sinema Transtopia have been secured as festival venues.

Der Themenschwerpunkt URBAN AFRICA, URBAN MOVIES stellt seit 2020 das urbane Afrika und seine filmische Reflexion im aktuellen afrikanischen Kino ins Zentrum eines auf vier Jahre angelegten Programms.
Afrikanische Filmemacher*innen liefern den Stoff für Emanzipations- und Empowermentdebatten zu den relevanten Zukunftsfragen unserer Zeit – von der Frage, wie Menschen im Globalen Süden zukünftig leben möchten bis hin zur Diskussion über die Konsequenzen von Digitalisierung, Vernetzung und gesellschaftlicher Entwicklung aus afrikanischer Perspektive. Wie könnte eine polyzentrische, vernetzte Welt der Zukunft aussehen, in der sich die innovativen Zentren der Welt nicht mehr nur im „Westen » befinden, sondern auch im Globalen Süden, in den afrikanischen Metropolen?
„Afrikamera 2023: Urban Africa – Urban Movies: Future & Utopias »präsentiert eine Auswahl cineastischer (Zukunfts-)visionen aus den Metropolen des afrikanischen Kontinents, die eine Zukunft jenseits westlicher Vorstellungsmuster imaginieren. Darüber hinaus werden aktuelle Filmhighlights zu sehen sein, die auf großen internationalen Festivals wie Cannes und Sundance Premiere feierten und ausgezeichnet wurden, darunter die nigerianische Produktion MAMI WATA (Nigeria, Frankreich 2023) von C. J. ‚Fiery‘ Obasi sowie BANEL & ADAMA (Senegal 2023) von Ramata-Toulaye Sy.
