Le Coal City Film Festival célèbre l’originalité des expressions cinématographiques africaines dans la ville qui a sans doute donné naissance à Nollywood tel que nous le connaissons aujourd’hui. L’État d’Enugu, au Nigeria, a joué un rôle essentiel dans l’accueil des premiers cinéastes et a fourni des lieux de tournage dans les premiers jours de la plus grande industrie cinématographique d’Afrique et a continué à le faire ; quelle autre façon de rembourser l’État, que de rassembler chaque année des cinéastes du monde entier dans cette ville touristique ayant tant d’importance historique et archéologique pour le Nigeria et l’Afrique dans son ensemble.
Le festival est une initiative d’Okike Media dans le but de servir de porte d’entrée au cœur du potentiel touristique du sud-est du Nigeria.
La FCFF est fière d’offrir des activités qui favorisent l’appréciation de l’art cinématographique et qui éduquent les cinéastes locaux et régionaux, les étudiants en cinéma, la communauté artistique au sens large et le grand public. C’est l’occasion pour les cinéastes indépendants et la communauté artistique dans son ensemble de célébrer la beauté de l’art du cinéma.
La première édition a eu lieu en mars 2021 avec un large appel à candidatures de cinéastes locaux et internationaux. Depuis, le CCFF est devenu un événement annuel, attirant même des milliers de participants à travers l’industrie.

The Coal City Film Festival celebrates the originality of African cinematic expressions in the city that undoubtedly gave birth to Nollywood as we know it today. Enugu State, Nigeria, played a key role in welcoming the first filmmakers and provided filming locations in the early days of Africa’s largest film industry and continued to do; what other way to repay the government, that to gather every year filmmakers from all over the world in this tourist city of such historical and archaeological importance for Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
