Rejoignez-nous au premier Africa Film Fest Australia du 19 – 21 juillet 2024 ! Ce festival de trois jours célèbre la richesse et la diversité du cinéma africain au cœur de l’ouest de Sydney; Une vitrine de films contemporains d’Afrique et de la diaspora.
Dont 7 longs métrages, une série de courts-métrages et 3 événements incontournables dont l’animation Afrofutures dans le Western Sydney Screening et Workshop, qui se tient ici même à ACE, Venez célébrer avec nous le monde vibrant et diversifié du cinéma africain en juillet !
Le festival débutera avec la première australienne de Rise : Siya Kolisi Story. Ce documentaire captivant raconte le voyage de Siya Kolisi, la première capitaine noire de l’équipe nationale sud-africaine de rugby, Il décrit son ascension d’une éducation difficile à la célébrité internationale. Joignez-vous à Kolisi, sa famille, ses amis et ses coéquipiers pour partager l’histoire inspirante de sa vie.
Le festival sera organisé par les théâtres Riverside à Parramatta, et est soutenu par Screen NSW, la ville de Parramatta, Multicultural NSW et WeirAnderson Films.

– After The Long Rains – Première australienne – Une jeune fille nommée Aisha, qui rêve de devenir actrice et de dépasser les normes de genre dans sa communauté.
– Girl – Une histoire poignante de Ama, 11 ans, et de sa mère Grace, qui explore les thèmes de la croissance, de la mémoire et du besoin d’affronter le passé.
– Colette et Justin – Première australienne – Le premier film d’Alain Kassanda, qui offre un aperçu de la vie de ses grands-parents et de l’histoire postcoloniale du Congo.
– All the Colors Are Between Black and White – Une tendre histoire d’amour dans le contexte des lois anti-homosexuelles du Nigeria, lauréat du prix Teddy pour le meilleur film queer à la Berlinale.
– Banel et Adama – Un conte de jeunes amoureux et de conflits culturels dans un village reculé du Sénégal.
– The Last Queen – Australie première. Une épopée historique sur la reine Zaphira d’Algérie, qui tient tête au pirate Aruj Barbarossa.

Court-métrages et session de questions et réponses d’Umoja : une collection de courts-métrages d’Afrique, de France et d’Australie, suivie d’une séance de questions et réponses avec des cinéastes locaux et internationaux.
Afro futures Animation in Western Sydney Screening and Workshop : Un atelier créatif et une séance de projection explorant le genre en pleine croissance de l’animation africaine, animé par desL’animateur australien Edi Udo et le Jamaïcain-Australien Rubeena King. Seirat Hulu, écrivain et réalisateur éthiopien-américain du programme SparkShorts de Pixar, présentera la création de Self, un court métrage d’animation en stop-motion au Arts & Cultural Excha

The festival will kick off with the Australian premiere of Rise: Siya Kolisi Story. This compelling documentary chronicles the journey of Siya Kolisi, the first Black captain of the South African national rugby union team, detailing his rise from a challenging upbringing to international stardom. Join Kolisi, his family, friends, and teammates as they share the inspiring tale of his life.
The Festival will be hosted by Riverside Theatres in Parramatta, and is supported by Screen NSW, City of Parramatta, Multicultural NSW and WeirAnderson Films.

– Girl – A poignant tale of eleven-year-old Ama and her mother Grace, exploring themes of growth, memory, and the need to face the past.
– Colette and Justin – Australian premiere-Alain Kassanda’s debut film, offering a deep dive into his grandparents’ lives and postcolonial DR Congo’s history.
– All the Colours Are Between Black and White – A tender love story set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s anti-gay laws, winner of the Teddy Award for best queer film at Berlinale.
– Banel and Adama – A tale of young love and cultural conflict set in a remote Senegalese village.
– The Last Queen – Australia premiere- A historical epic about Queen Zaphira of Algeria, who stands up to the pirate Aruj Barbarossa.

Afrofutures Animation in Western Sydney Screening and Workshop: A creative workshop and screening session exploring the growing genre of African animation, facilitated by Nigerian-Australian animator Edi Udo and Jamaican-Australian Rubeena King. Special guest Seirat Hulu, Ethiopian-American writer/director from Pixar’s SparkShorts program, will present the making of Self, a stop-motion animated short at Arts & Cultural Exchange Paramatta.
