From November 11th to 16th, under this year's focus CHANGE, we will present around 30 recent feature-length and short film productions, along with award-winning highlights from contemporary African cinema, across seven venues in Berlin. The program also includes talks and a concert by AFROTRONIX, the Canadian-Chadian musician and producer.
Our opening film, PROMIS LE CIEL (Tunisia/France/Qatar, 2025), will be presented by director Erige Sehiri on Tuesday, November 11th, at City Kino Wedding. We're proud to feature many strong voices from female and female-identifying directors.
On November 14th, MIKOKO (Togo, 2025) by Angela Aquereburu Rabatel reminds us that the fight for women's rights is not limited to a single day of action, but must be a continuous struggle.
HANAMI by Denise Fernandes (Cape Verde/Switzerland/Portugal, 2024), screening on November 15th, is a moving coming-of-age story about love, care and postpartum depression. It offers poetic and spiritual insights into everyday life in Cape Verde.
With UNE SI LONGUE LETTRE (Senegal, 2024), November 16th, by Angèle Diabang, AFRIKAMERA presents the film adaptation of Mariama Bâ's bestselling novel for the first time in Germany, one of this summer's major box office hits in West Africa. The story centers on Ramatoulaye, a 50-year-old teacher whose husband unexpectedly marries a second wife, none other than her daughter's best friend.
In cooperation with the Institut Français Germany, a conversation will follow the screening between the director and Arlette-Louise Ndakoze, philosopher, sound/word artist and journalist, discussing the significance of Mariama Bâ for Senegal's feminist movement and the challenges of adapting a literary classic to film.
On Sunday, November 16th, AFRIKAMERA hosts the public panel BREAKING INTO THE INDUSTRY: TRAINING AND STRATEGIES FOR WOMEN FILMMAKERS, in cooperation with the German Africa Foundation, at Sinema Transtopia. Speakers include Chanelle Ellaya (Ladima Foundation, South Africa), Paula Essam (actress, writer, board member of ProQuote Film), and Mariame N'Diaye (director), discussing opportunities, trends, and collaborations to strengthen the visibility and presence of women in film. Moderated by ShaNon Bobinger.

On November 13th, we present MY FATHER'S SHADOW (UK/Nigeria, 2025), the feature film debut of Akinola Davies Jr., recently nominated for an Oscar 2025. This semi-autobiographical drama blends coming-of-age narrative, political commentary and a heartfelt tribute to the Nigerian city of Lagos.
Also on November 13th, we screen ALL THE COLOURS OF THE WORLD ARE BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE (Nigeria, 2023) by Babatunde Apalowo, in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
The film won the Teddy Award at the 2023 Berlinale and tells the story of two men gradually forming a bond in a society where same-sex love remains a taboo and is criminalized. A panel discussion will follow with Babatunde Apalowo (director), Adebisi Alimi (LGBTQI activist, London), and Ulle Schauws (Member of the German Bundestag). Registration is available here.
KATANGA, LA DANSE DES SCORPIONS by Dani Kouyaté, a powerful adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth set in the fictional African kingdom of Ganzurgu, was recently awarded the Yennenga Golden Stallion, the top prize at FESPACO 2025, marking the first time in 28 years a Burkinabé film has received this honor. Director Dani Kouyaté will attend both screenings on November 15th at City Kino Wedding and Saturday, November 16th at BrotfabrikKino.
