FIFDA 2013 – Festival International des Films de la Diaspora Africaine
3ème édition. Mission de FIFDA: Ouvrir la réflexion sur le vécu des personnes d’Afrique et d’origine africaine partout dans le monde et bâtir un pont avec une production audiovisuelle riche et variée pour enrichir le dialogue des cultures.

La diaspora africaine est un concept fédérateur qui permet de créer des liens entre personnes issues de l’Afrique et de sa diaspora, menant ainsi à une meilleure connaissance et compréhension des similarités et différences qui existent à travers des croisements de cultures, langues et nationalités.

L’Association Festival des Films de la Diaspora Africaine (FIFDA) a été établie à Paris en 2009 comme association de la loi de 1901. Elle a pour mission de présenter au plus grand nombre des films issus de l’Afrique et de sa diaspora et de renforcer le rôle des réalisateurs africains et d’origine africaine dans le cinéma mondial contemporain.

FIFDA présente un cinéma inédit et souvent négligé qui met de l’avant le regard des personnes africaines et de la diaspora africaine sur la société.

Après deux années de succès et un ciné-club inauguré en janvier 2013, le FIFDA revient pour sa troisième édition avec de nouveaux films qui représentent la richesse et la diversité de l’Afrique et de sa diaspora.

This exploration of Haitian society of the late 19th and early 20th centuries focuses on the tormented life of one of Haiti’s most important authors and prominent political figures, Jacques Roumain. In his perceptive writings, Roumain raised questions about the issues facing Haiti that remain relevant today. Some of Jacques Roumain’s best writings were translated by the legendary African-American poet Langston Hughes. The question is raised: what legacy has Jacques Roumain left for the future of Haitian youth.

Haminiaina Ratovoarivony writes, directs and edits a spirited road trip story full of nationalist uplift. A thief on the run, a sociology student, an underground reggae DJ and an Indo-Pakistani runaway pack into a Mini-Cooper with an image of Che Guevera painted on the hood. From the capital they drive along a raging orange-colored river to the wild coast, encountering corrupt soldiers and a Japanese geologist preaching the gospel. This entertaining 2012 indie boasts curious scenery and social commentary.

In 1993, death squads opened fire on a group of sleeping street children camped on the steps of a cathedral in Rio de Janeiro’s central financial district, killing six. This event, later called the Candelaria massacre, is vividly depicted in this short film about the plight of street children in Brazil.
