This latest film from Ferzan Ozpetek (« Saturno Contro », « The Turkish Bath ») is a delightful coming-out story involving a wealthy pasta-making family from southern Italy. Tomassa, the youngest son, informs his older brother Antonio that he is going to tell his family that he’s gay. But at the dinner table that night, Antonio beats him to it and confesses to his own homosexual activity. And so begins a rollicking tragicomedy. With touching performances, and overflowing with double entendres, « LOOSE CANNONS » has more in common with A Midsummer Night’s Dream » than it does with the language of contemporary queer cinema.
