Eli Kimaro, va à la recherche de ses racines et découvre de bien sombres secrets de familles. Kimaro est la fille d’un Tanzanien et d’une Coréenne. Bien qu’elle ait passé beaucoup d’étés de son enfance en Tanzanie, Kimaro n’a jamais senti qu’elle avait développé un lien puissant avec le côté Africain de sa famille. A sa retraite, quand son père retourne en Tanzanie pour rétablir des liens avec la tribu Chagga dont il est natif, Kimaro se propose de filmer son voyage : il est l’un des rares enfants Chagga à avoir reçu une éducation occidentale de première qualité. Sur huit ans, Kimaro découvre une connexion avec ses tantes Chaggas – basée sur des abus sexuels qui ont longtemps été cachés et jamais discutés par les membres de la famille.

Eli Kimaro, goes in search of her roots and discovers long-held dark family secrets. Kimaro is the daughter of a Tanzanian father and Korean mother. Despite the fact that she spent many of her childhood summers in Tanzania, Kimaro never felt she developed a strong bond with the African side of her family. When her father retired to Tanzania to re-establish ties to his native Chagga tribe, Kimaro planned to document his journey on film as one of the few Chagga children to receive a first-rate Western education. Over the next eight years, Kimaro discovers a connection with her Chagga aunts- one based on sexual abuse that had been long hidden and never discussed among the family members.
