On l’a appelée « la révolution de jasmin ». L’étincelle est partie de l’immolation par le feu d’un jeune homme de 26 ans en Tunisie, et s’est propagée au pays tout entier. Les cris des Tunisiens demandant plus de libertés et de droits ont ébranlé le pays, et une vague d’optimisme a gagné le peuple. Le dictateur Ben Ali a fui le pays et son régime corrompu s’est trouvé mis à mal. Il s’agissait de la première révolution du 21e siècle, et le monde arabe devait s’en trouver changé à jamais.

It has been called the « Dignity revolution ». The spark that was set off by the self-immolation of a 26-year-old man in a Tunisian town spread like fire in the entire country. The cry of the Tunisians who demanded freedom and fought for their right to work shook the entire world and gave, once again, a historical role to optimism. Ben Ali, the once almighty dictator, fled the country and his corrupt regime was unmasked. The first revolution of the 21st century is a fact and the Arab world will never be the same again.
