Dans le conscient collectif, Bahreïn est un pays riche, moderne, en plein essor. En réalité, la monarchie sunnite du roi Al Khalifa est une dictature pratiquant la torture, les arrestations arbitraires, la discrimination à l’égard d’une population chiite à plus de 75%. Au printemps 2011, lors du début du soulèvement, l’armée saoudienne a envoyé ses chars à Bahreïn pour rétablir l’ordre.
Depuis maintenant un an, chaque jour, des femmes et des hommes de toutes les générations défient le pouvoir de Manama pour demander plus de démocratie. Une population opprimée dans l’indifférence générale..

In a country where no journalist can enter, in February 2012 documentary maker Stéphanie Lamorré managed to smuggle in a camera and record the violently suppressed rebellion in secret. Although the rest of the world seemed convinced that there was nothing going on in Bahrain, citizens here were taking to the streets night after night. Since the outbreak of the rebellion on 14 February 2011, there have been more than seventy deaths and hundreds wounded in the demonstrations and in captivity. For a month Lamorré accompanies several women who daily risk their lives to plead peaceably for democracy and freedom. This documentary urgently shows the need of breaking through the silence surrounding the revolution in Bahrain.

In een land waar geen journalist binnen komt, wist documentairemaker Stéphanie Lamorré in februari 2012 een camera binnen te smokkelen en in het geheim de gewelddadig onderdrukte opstanden vast te leggen. Hoewel de rest van de wereld overtuigd leek dat er in Bahrein niks gaande was, gingen burgers ook hier avond aan avond de straat op. Sinds de uitbraak van de opstand op 14 februari 2011 vielen er meer dan zeventig doden en honderden gewonden tijdens de demonstraties en in gevangenschap. Lamorré vergezelt een maand lang verschillende vrouwen die dagelijks, met gevaar voor eigen leven, vreedzaam pleiten voor democratie en vrijheid. Deze nijpende documentaire is een noodzakelijke doorbreking van de stilte rondom de revolutie in Bahrein.
