Sous forme de road movie, le film La Voie Normale dresse le portrait croisé de cheminots tunisiens. Sur les rails, aux commandes de la vieille locomotive, les protagonistes de La Voie Normale défendent leurs propres choix malgré les risques.
Dans ce road movie aux airs rock de Pink Floyd et au son jazzy d’Anouar Brahem entremêlés du bruit constant de la locomotive, Ahmed (31), assistant conducteur de train, nous raconte son voyage entre les saisons, son désir de devenir quelqu’un d’autre, sa fuite. En quittant les quartiers chics de Tunis, sur le chemin de fer de « La Voie Normale » en direction de la frontière algérienne, on fait la connaissance de ses compagnons de route et de cheminots hors du commun. Sur un ton ni trop grave, ni trop dramatique, mais sur fond de critique sociale, « Sur la Voie Normale » raconte un moment de vie ou on doit faire un choix; se battre, attendre, trouver un compromis ou partir. En toile de fond, se dévoile la légende de celui que les cheminots appellent « le train de la mort », montrant une réalité trop souvent oubliée et révélant les angoisses de chacun.

NOTE DE LA PROGRAMMATRICE
Comment la Tunisie fait-elle face aux suites de la révolution qu’a initié le Printemps arabe? En s’intéressant à l’univers des cheminots tunisiens, ce film pose un regard sans concession sur ce qui reste à faire pour remettre la société sur la bonne voie. En s’intéressant à cinq personnages affectés à la ligne no 1, la réalisatrice Erige Sehiri compose un portrait complexe d’un pays en transition. La ligne no 1 est surnommée « la voie normale » car c’est la seule construite selon les normes internationales. Ironiquement, c’est aussi la plus délaissée et détériorée du réseau. Les accidents sont fréquents et les vies des passagers et des employés sont mises en danger. Ahmed, Afef, Issam, Abee et Najib sont acteurs et témoins du difficile processus de transformation des chemins de fer tunisiens, et par extension de la société post-révolutionnaire tunisienne dans son ensemble. Chacun d’entre eux essaye au mieux de trouver une nouvelle place dans une société qui peine à se créer un mode d’existence démocratique. En dénonçant l’incompétence et la corruption, ce film superbement réalisé célèbre la dignité, l’espoir et la résilience.

How is Tunisia coping with the aftermath of the revolution that sparked the Arab spring? By casting a close look at the state of the union of the Tunisian railways, the film sheds an uncompromising light onto what still needs to be done to put society on the good track. Focusing her attention on five characters that are assigned to Line no 1, director Erige Sehiri composes a complex portrait of a country in a transitional phase. Line no 1 is dubbed « the Normal Way » because it is the only one built respecting the international standards. Ironically, it is also the most neglected and rundown. Accidents happens all the time putting both passengers’ and workers’ lives at stake. Ahmed, Afef, Issam, Abee and Najib are the protagonists and the witnesses of a difficult transformation process that from the Tunisian railways invests the whole of Tunisian post-revolutionary society. Each one of them tries hard to find a new place in a society that struggles to create a democratic way of existing. Tackling incompetence and corruption, this superbly-crafted film celebrates dignity, hope and resilience.

Wie kommt Tunesien mit den Nachwirkungen der vom Arabischen Frühling ausgelösten Revolution klar? Mit der genauen Untersuchung des Zustands der Tunesischen Eisenbahnen zieht der Film eine kompromisslose Parallele zu dem, was noch getan werden muss, um die Gesellschaft wieder in Fahrt zu bringen. Regisseurin Erige Sehiri konzentriert sich auf fünf Personen, die mit dem Betrieb der Linie 1 zu tun haben, und zeichnet gleichzeitig das komplexe Porträt eines Landes im Wandel. Linie 1 wird auch die « Normale » genannt, weil sie als einzige unter Befolgung der internationalen Standards gebaut wurde. Ironischerweise ist sie auch die am meisten vernachlässigte und abgenutzte. Es geschehen ständig Unfälle, die das Leben der Passagiere und Arbeiter gefährden. Ahmed, Afef, Issam, Abee und Najib sind die Protagonisten und Zeugen eines schwierigen Transformationsprozesses, der von der tunesischen Eisenbahn auf die gesamte postrevolutionäre tunesische Gesellschaft übertragbar ist. Jeder von ihnen kämpft hart dafür, einen neuen Platz in einer Gesellschaft zu finden, der es schwerfällt, eine demokratische Form der Existenz zu finden. Dieser meisterhaft aufgebaute Film geht Inkompetenz und Korruption nach, zelebriert aber gleichzeitig Würde, Hoffnung und Resilienz.
