Tourné en Californie, en Angleterre, au Sénégal et en Gambie, ce documentaire met en exergue la pratique de la mutilation sexuelle des femmes en Afrique et examine la multitude de questions qui sous-tendent cette pratique, y compris les aspects culturel, historique, politique et personnel. Composé d’entretiens avec des femmes impliquées dans la mutilation sexuelle féminine, celles qui ont été excisées, celles qui accomplissent l’excision et celles qui ont déclaré la guerre contre la poursuite de cette pratique, le reportage est entrecoupé de séquences de danse évocatrices symbolisant la force et la douleur des jeunes filles et des femmes qui ont transformé leurs plaies en cicatrices de guerrières.
