Au jour le jour, ce film raconte l’histoire d’une difficile naissance. Celle de la démocratie. La première du monde arabe. Le 14 janvier 2011, la rue tunisienne balaye Ben Ali et ses 23 ans de règne.
Un événement au retentissement planétaire, détonateur du Printemps arabe. Neuf mois après la chute de Ben Ali, la Tunisie a vécu le week-end du 23 octobre les premières élections libres de son histoire, son premier test démocratique avec l’élection de l’Assemblée constituante.
Le parti islamiste « Ennahdha » de Rached Ghannouchi qui séduit aussi bien les ennemis de la dictature que les déçus de la révolution est donné vainqueur de l’élection de l’assemblée constituante du 23 octobre. Les derniers chiffres confirment l’avance des Islamistes… La constituante élue par les Tunisiens devra prioritairement choisir le nouveau président de la république qui lui même formera un nouvel éxécutif.

Depuis les débuts des révoltes, Feriel Ben Mahmoud, réalisatrice d’origine tunisienne a suivi ce processus démocratique et accompagné jusqu’aux élections quelques partis politiques, représentatifs de la diversité des opinions, parmi les 100 partis qui ont vus le jour depuis la révolution. Ce film décortique l’élan démocratique tunisien et appréhende les enjeux fondamentaux de cette élection (parité, laïcité, place de la religion…).
