Sofia reçoit une visite qui la sidère : Émilie, qu’elle tient pour responsable de la cassure définitive de son mariage avec Salim, vient avec son frère Hervé lui racheter la maison qu’elle a reçue en dote à cette occasion. D’abord désemparée par cette demande, Sofia va vite voir le parti qu’elle peut en tirer. Si elle renonçait à cette dote funeste qui a brisé son amour de jeunesse en faisant d’elle, en tous cas à ses propres yeux, un vil objet d’échange, peut-être pourrait-elle renouer avec Salim.

Sofia receives a visit which bewilders her: Émilie, whom she holds responsible for the definitive break down of her marriage with Salim, comes with her brother Hervé to buy back the house which she received as a wedding gift. At first disturbed by this request, Sofia quickly understands what she can gain. If she gave up this disastrous gift which destroyed her young love by making her, in her own eyes, a nasty exchange, maybe she could make up with Salim.
