Sheikh Hatem stands out in a society influenced by fundamentalist views. From leading the prayers at a government mosque to becoming a popular TV celebrity issuing fatwas that deviate from the traditional religious rhetoric, he has amassed millions of fans.

His responses on TV reveal a witty and eloquent person against a backdrop of darkness, where power struggles rage. Hatem finds himself caught within a complex web of conflict – his personal life unravels and he tries to stay above the politics of institutions. When he is entangled in a delicate matter, he has to find a way to make a dent in the climate of hypocrisy and fear.

رحلة صعود تبدو مُعتادة لشيخ صغير في مسجد حكومي، من مجرّد إمامة المصلين إلى داعية تلفزيوني شهير يملك حق « الفتوى » التي يتلقاها الملايين بالإعجاب لجرأته في الخروج قليلاً عن المألوف في مجتمع متأثر بدعاوى التشدّد. يجد الشيخ حاتم (عمرو سعد) نفسه في شبكة من الصراعات المعقّدة، بين فقده الجزئي لطفلٍ تأخّر إنجابه، ويُعالج في مصحّة خارج الوطن، وامرأة فتر حبها مع وطأة الفقد لرباط الأمومة. وما بين مؤسسات أمنية تَسعى للسيطرة عليه، وتوريطه، واستغلال نقاط ضعفه لخدمة معاركها، بينما تورّطه جهة سيادية عُليا في حل مشكلة أحد أبنائها، الذي يعرّض الأسرة الرئاسية لحرج لا تتحمله ظروف مجتمع هشّ. « إنني لا أستطيع قول الحقيقة كلها، ولكنني أبذل طاقتي كي لا أنطق بغيرها ». هذا ما يحاول الشيخ حاتم فعله…
