Papero, Ballerina, Merda et Plissé ont prévu un vol, dans l’espoir de faire tirer un coup qui changera leur vie pour toujours. Peu importe que le premier n’a pas de jambes et Ballerina, sa très belle épouse, n’a pas d’armes, que Merda est une toxicomane Rasta et Plissé un rapper nain. Ce ne sont que des détails. Pour eux, il n’y a pas d’obstacles, seuls les rêves. Même si, après le vol, les choses se compliquent: chaque membre de la bande improbable semble avoir un plan pour garder le butin pour soi. Tout le monde vole l’autre, ne montrant aucune pitié dans une vague de poursuites, de vendettas sanglantes, d’exécutions sanglantes et de trahisons mutuelles.

Papero, Ballerina, Merda and Plissé have a shot at robbery, hoping to pull off a heist that will change their lives forever. It doesn’t matter that the former has no legs and Ballerina, his very beautiful wife, has no arms, that Merda is a drug-addicted Rasta and Plissé a dwarf rapper. These are just details. For them there are no obstacles, only dreams. Even though, after the robbery, things get complicated: every member of the unlikely band seems to have hatched a plan to keep the loot for themselves. Everyone steals from everyone else, showing no pity in a flurry of chases, bloody vendettas, gory executions and mutual betrayals.

Director’s Statement
The underlying theme of Brutti e cattivi is equality. The whole film revolves around the « rule » that any human being can be cynical and ruthless regardless of his or her appearance. Brutti e cattivi is an action comedy that breaks the mold, in which a bunch of luckless and vicious but shrewd and daring scoundrels pull off an ingenious heist. That’s not all: we see them having sex, offending and being offended, killing and being killed, in a whirlwind of events. But it is not a realistic film. It is a film that, walking a tightrope between the true and the plausible, aims to attain a dimension that is at once lyrical and entertaining.

Il Papero, Ballerina, il Merda e Plissé s’improvvisano rapinatori per il colpo che cambierà la loro vita. Non importa se il primo è senza gambe e Ballerina, la sua bellissima moglie, non ha le braccia, se Merda è un rasta tossico e Plissé un nano rapper. Sono solo dettagli. Per loro non ci sono ostacoli. Solo sogni.
Anche se, dopo il colpo, le cose si complicano: ogni membro dell’improbabile banda sembra avere un piano tutto suo per tenersi il malloppo. Tutti fregano tutti senza nessuna pietà in una girandola d’inseguimenti, cruente vendette, esecuzioni sanguinose e tradimenti incrociati.

Commento del regista
Il tema alla base di Brutti e cattivi è l’uguaglianza. Tutto il film si muove all’interno della « regola » che ogni essere umano può essere cinico e spietato a prescindere dalle apparenze. Brutti e cattivi è una commedia d’azione che rompe gli schemi, in cui un gruppo di sfortunati cialtroni e cattivi, abilissimi e spregiudicati, mette a segno un’ingegnosa rapina. Non solo: li vedremo fare sesso, offendere ed essere offesi, uccidere ed essere uccisi, in una girandola di avvenimenti. Ma non è un film realistico. È un film che, camminando in equilibrio tra il vero e il verosimile, punta a raggiungere una dimensione lirica e divertente al tempo stesso.
