En Algérie, en 1994, la guerre civile fait rage. Deux amis de toujours, S. et Lofti partent dans le désert du Sahara à la poursuite d’un dangereux terroriste, Abou Leila. Cette poursuite semble n’avoir aucun sens : le conflit n’a pas encore atteint le désert. S. est pourtant certain qu’Abou Leila se trouve là-bas, mais sa santé mentale est instable. Lofti, lui, cherche à éloigner S. de la capitale à tout prix. Toutefois, c’est en s’enfonçant dans le désert que la violence va les rattraper.

Algérie, 1994. S. et Lotfi, deux amis d’enfance, traversent le désert à la recherche d’Abou Leila, un dangereux terroriste. La poursuite semble absurde, le Sahara n’ayant pas encore été touché par la vague d’attentats. Mais S., dont la santé mentale est vacillante, est convaincu d’y trouver Abou Leila. Lotfi, lui, n’a qu’une idée en tête : éloigner S. de la capitale. Pourtant, c’est en s’enfonçant dans le désert qu’ils vont se confronter à leur propre violence.

2021 / Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême

In Algeria, in 1994, civil war is raging. Two childhood friends, S. and Lofti walk into the Sahara desert after a dangerous terrorist, Abou Leila. This chase seems to be a nonsense as the conflict has not reached the desert. S. is positive that Abou Leila is there but S.’s mental health is unstable. As for Lofti, all he wants is to take S. as far from the capital as possible. Though, once in the desert, the violence will catch up with them.

Algeria, 1994. S. and Lotfi, two friends from childhood, travel through the desert looking for Abou Leila, a dangerous terrorist on the run. Their quest seems absurd, given that the Sahara has not been affected by the wave of attacks. Lofti has only one priority : to keep S. as far from the capital as possible, knowing his friend is too fragile to face more bloodshed. But the closest they get into the desert, the more they will be confronted with their own violence.
