La cité des hiboux est un village résidentiel isolé, situé dans les montagnes du Haut Atlas. Resté hors de l’histoire depuis plusieurs années c’est en réalité une grande prison dans laquelle habitants et gardiens sont des détenus.

« La cité des hiboux » est un groupement d’habitations réunissant familles et gardiens d’un centre de détention secret. Niché entre les montagnes du Haut Atlas, l’existence de ce lieu est restée longtemps hors de l’histoire, jusqu’au début des années 1990. Les gardiens, qui y habitent, consument leur temps à assurer, à tour de rôle, la surveillance des lieux, en longeant chaque jour un pont suspendu sur un ravin profond et reliant le douar à la prison de la citadelle. Les personnages, dont les chemins et les destins se sont séparés, n’ont que le lieu en commun. Le destin leur a tout de même appris qu’en réalité « la cité des hiboux » n’est qu’une grande prison où tout le monde y est incarcéré, gardiens et détenus

The town of Owls is an isolated residential community situated in the High Atlas Mountains. Left on the side of history, it is in fact a huge prison in which everyone, including guards and residents, are held detainees.

The town of Owls is an isolated residential community situated in the High Atlas Mountains. It is inhabited by families and guards of a secret military prison, which was kept secret for several years, until the end of the eighties of the last century. Guards spend their days back and forth between the secret prison and the village through a bridge, built upon a deep valley that connects the village with the prison.
Said is a simple and illiterate man. He spends his life, in rotation with other guards, protecting the gates of the prison. Besides, he helps Al Faqih, the spiritual guardian of the town, to bury the dead detainees. He loves his work and defends it passionately. Furthermore, he considers guarding the military prison as a confirmation of patriotism, and believes that detainees are a threat to the security and peace of the country… Yet, Said’s conviction would run into the tragedy of Al Faqih, as he realises that « the town of Owls » is in fact a huge prison in which everyone, including guards and residents, are held detainees.
