A Makoko, le plus grand bidonville sur l’eau au Nigeria, Mme F. (Ifeoma Fafunwa) veut unir des femmes et jouer sa pièce de théâtre intitulée « Hear Word »; un projet d’autonomisation des femmes sur l’inégalité des sexes basé sur des histoires vraies pour sortir les femmes de leur position opprimée, pour les convaincre de s’exprimer et les encourager à se connecter. Mais avant même de pouvoir commencer, elle doit surmonter les gardiens indisciplinés du patriarcat et de la religion.

In Makoko, the largest slum on water in Nigeria, Mrs F. wants to unite women and perform the play called « Hear Word »; a women empowerment project about gender inequality based on true stories to get women out of their oppressed position, to convince them to speak up and encourage them to connect. But even before she can start, she must overcome the unruly gatekeepers of patriarchy and religion.

Ifeoma Fafunwa, Mrs. F., takes up the challenge of staging her play HEAR WORD! about the abuse of women in male-dominated Makoko, a slum with houses on stilts in the lagoon of Lagos. Besides the original cast of Nigeria’s most acclaimed actresses, Ifeoma will cast young women in Makoko who are subject to the same fate as many of the women in Nigeria. Ifeoma connects with them through her personal struggle with her background. Can Ifeoma set a transformation in motion in the heart of the fastest growing city in the world that breaks with the silence culture in Nigeria.
