Mimouna vit avec sa soeur cadette, Salima, et son frère aîné, Hamid, chez ses parents, des immigrés algériens, dans la banlieue parisienne des années 90. Le père travaille sur les chantiers, la mère reste à la maison. Exilés, loin de leur proche famille, le temps passe à attendre le congé, le retour au pays pour quelques semaines. Une soeur a disparu de la maison. Elle s'est sauvée. Salima, enjouée, dynamique et révoltée, rêve déjà de partir avec quelqu'un. Hamid, d'une nature plutôt douce et rêveuse est en conflit avec son père qui attend de lui des réactions plus violentes et plus autoritaires envers ses soeurs. Pour échapper à cette atmosphère pesante, Mimouna ne fuit pas mais elle ment. Elle fait croire à ses parents qu'elle travaille dans un hôpital et qu'elle a souvent des gardes à assurer.

Mimouna lives with her younger sister, Salima, and older brother, Hamid, at her parents' home, Algerian immigrants, in the Parisian suburbs of the 1990s. The father works on construction sites, the mother stays at home. Exiled, far from their close family, time is spent waiting for the vacation, the return home for a few weeks. A sister has disappeared from the house. She ran away. Salima, cheerful, dynamic and rebellious, is already dreaming of leaving with someone. Hamid, of a rather sweet and dreamy nature, is in conflict with his father who expects him to react more violently and authoritatively towards his sisters. To escape this heavy atmosphere, Mimouna does not run away, but she lies. She makes her parents believe that she works in a hospital and that she often has guards to look after her.
