Khaled est transféré pour travailler dans un département de son institut à Alexandrie, pendant un mois. Il remplace un employé qui s'est suicidé dans des conditions mystérieuses, jusqu'à ce qu'un autre employé prenne le poste. Il vit avec Mokhtar Abdul-Hai, dans son appartement. Mokhtar est un "Capitaine de mer" à la retraite qui vit seul dans un appartement au bord de la mer. Khaled fait l'expérience d'un voyage particulier en relation avec la vie de Mokhtar et son appartement, ainsi qu'avec la découverte de la raison du suicide de cet autre employé.

Khaled is transferred to work in a branch of his institute in Alexandria for a month. He replaces an employee who has commit suicide in mysterious conditions, until another employee takes the position. He lives with Mokhtar Abdul-Hai, at his apartment. Mokhtar is a retired "Sea Captain" who lives alone at an apartment by the sea. Khaled experiences a peculiar journey in relation with Mokhtar's life and his apartment, as well as with learning the reason of that other employee's suicide.
