Le film déroule délicatement le triste tableau de la ville de Charleston, à travers les souvenirs amers, les rêves brisés et la colère sourde de Joe Watson, un épicier de quartier. Son magasin se transforme, au gré de son témoignage et de celui de ses clients, en chambre d’enregistrement de la mémoire d’une communauté noire remplie de colère contre les institutions (police, école, immobilier) gangrenées par le ségrégationnisme et la haine raciale. C’est là où la mort de Walter Scott, tué par un policier, montrée en vidéo, a donné une impulsion au mouvement Black Lives Matter.

The film delicately unfolds the sad picture of the city of Charleston through the bitter memories, broken dreams and dull anger of Joe Watson, a neighbourhood grocer. His shop becomes, through his testimony and that of his customers, a recording chamber of the memory of a black community filled with anger against institutions (police, schools, real estate) corrupted by segregationism and racial hatred. This is where the death of Walter Scott, killed by a police officer, shown on video, gave impetus to the Black Lives Matter movement.
