Taher, est un jeune Arabe de dix ans vivant à Jaffa. Il n’a qu’un seul rêve en tête: avoir un chien. Un jour, ce rêve devient réalité lorsqu’il trouve un petit chiot dans la rue qu’il nomme Ringo. Mais dans la réalité du quotidien, les parents de Taher doivent se battre tous les jours pour vivre une vie décente et l’idée élever un chien est inacceptable. L’enfant est alors obligé d’élever le chien dans la rue et il décide rapidement de le cacher dans un immeuble abandonné et mal famé, connu sous le nom d’Hirbeh, véritable repaire des voyous de la ville que fréquentent son frère aîné Haled et son ami Abed. Âgé de cinquante ans, Salim, le père, n’a pas reçu de salaire depuis plusieurs mois et la tension avec son fils aîné ne cesse de grandir. Salwa, la mère, âgée de trente-huit ans, se bat pour trouver des solutions. Les seuls moments de bonheur de l’enfant sont ceux qu’il passe avec son chien. Un jour, deux junkies se rendant à Hirbeh découvrent Ringo attaché et décident de le libérer. Quand Taher viens pour le nourrir, le chien a disparu. Le monde de l’enfant s’écroule…

Taher is a 10-year-old arab boy living in Jaffa. He dreams of only one thing: having a dog. One day, his dream comes true when he finds a little puppy in the street. He names it Ringo. But Taher’s parents must fight to have a decent life so they can’t accept the idea of raising a dog. The child has no choice but to raise the pup in the street. He decides to hide it in an abandoned, squalid building known as Hirbeh, which is used as a hideout by local hoodlums, as well as by his older brother, Haled, and his friend, Abed. Salem, the father, is 50 and hasn’t received his wages in months and his tense rapport with his older son only gets worse. Salwa, the 38-year-old mother, struggles for a way out. The happy moments the child spends with his dog are the only refuge from a wretched existence. One day, two junkies come to Hirbeh, find Ringo tied up and release it. When Taher comes to feed it, the dog is gone. The child’s world collapses.
