Oumou Sy est une styliste sénégalaise très connue pour ses créations dans le milieu de la mode et du cinéma. Pour la première fois, elle organise un carnaval, un hirdé (mot peul signifiant "après-midi de bonheur"). Pour ce faire, elle met à contribution comédiens, musiciens, danseurs, acrobates et toute la population dakaroise dans une grande manifestation qui sillonnera les rues de la capitale. Pendant un an, elle crée 1 200 costumes et accessoires, s'inspirant à la fois de la tradition des peuples anciens d'Afrique et d'Europe. Portant ce projet sur ses seules épaules, elle a réussi son pari : créer un évènement international et incontournable à Dakar. Ce film est une belle occasion de dresser le portrait de cette grande dame d'Afrique, analphabète autodidacte, qui suscite respect et admiration.

Oumou Sy is a Senegalese fashion designer known for her work in fashion and cinema. For the first time, she organized a carnival, a hirdé (Peul word meaning "afternoon of happiness"). To do this, she called on the collaboration of actors, musicians, dancers, acrobats and the entire population of Dakar to join in a major event that would fill the streets of the capital. For an entire year, she created 1,200 costumes and accessories based both on African and European traditions. Taking sole responsibility for this project, she met the challenge of creating a must-see international event in Dakar. This film is a portrait of this grande dame of Africa, a self-taught illiterate who commands respect and admiration.
