AFTER WINTER: STERLING BROWN is Gerima’s documentary tribute to the famed poet and literary critic. Made in collaboration with students from Howard University who served in major roles, « Gerima’s film lets its illustrious subject take the viewer on a journey laden with literary landmarks and historical anecdotes » says New Directions magazine. More importantly, the poet laureate of Washington D.C. serves as oral historian, and represents an archive for future African American generations much as the filmmaker himself perceives his role.
