Abu Raed est un gardien solitaire à l'aéroport international d'Amman. Dans son quartier, tous les enfants le croient pilote de ligne. Il leur raconte des histoires fantastiques. Mais bien qu'il rêve lui-même de voyager à travers le monde, son expérience de l'étranger se résume à quelques lectures et à de brèves rencontres avec des passagers. A la différence de son amie Nour, qui est une véritable pilote. Mourad, un marginal aigri, cherche à confondre Abu Raed… "Captain Abu Raed" transpose dans la Jordanie contemporaine une fable universelle sur fond d'amitié, d'inspiration et d'héroïsme.
