Après avoir vendu tous ses zébus au marché, par l’intermédiaire du démarcheur Retovo, le patron de zébus « Ravalomana » passe la nuit avec Clarissa, une fille de joie. Le lendemain, le taxi-brousse qui le ramène chez lui est attaqué par les dahalo (bandits de grand chemin) et lui-même tué par le chef des dahalo. La brigade de la gendarmerie locale mène l’enquête sur le meurtre. En parallèle, le fils du mort, Boban cherche aussi à trouver le meurtrier de son père. Il collabore avec Retovo, le démarcheur, qui le conseille de perpétrer l’attaque d’une ferme avec la complicité de Clarissa, ceci dans le but d’avoir des zébus volés pour appâter le chef des dahalo et mettre la min sur lui. Les gendarmes, renseignés par Clarissa, se mêlent aussi de l’attaque.
