Caro works for a benfits office, dealing with a daily parade of genuine claimants and wily fraudsters. When she discovers one of her claimants is cheating, she decides to follow him, one dark night.

Caroline is a young social worker who works at the bureau of the RMI, a French social welfare benefit for the unemployed without any other form of income. Highly conscientious, she takes the cases she follows greatly to heart. One day, by chance, she discovers that one of her cases works illegally in a restaurant kitchen. Feeling betrayed, against every professional ethic, she follows him in the street at night and finds out that he has another job cleaning. In the office, when she see this, she is treated like an informer and attacked in the street by people who cannot get benefits…. A critical approach without a conciliatory attitude to the complexity of the situations and emotions brought into play in the daily routine of social work.

Caroline è una giovane assistente che lavora allo sportello RMI, il reddito medio garantito francese. Molto coscienziosa si prende a cuore i casi che segue. Un giorno, per caso, scopre che uno dei suoi assistiti lavora in nero nelle cucine di un ristorante. Sentendosi come tradita, contro ogni etica professionale, lo segue per strada, la notte, e scopre che ha anche un altro lavoro nelle pulizie. In ufficio quando racconta il fatto è trattata come una delatrice e fuori dall’ufficio è aggredita per strada da chi non riesce a ottenere i sussidi…. Approccio critico e senza buonismi alla complessità delle situazioni e delle emozioni che si mettono in gioco nella quotidianità dell’assistenza sociale.
