Cinq ans après la première alternance politique survenue au Sénégal… Que reste-t-il des rêves nourris au soir du 19 mars 2000 ? Que reste-t-il de cette victoire conquise pas à pas, souvent au prix d'immenses sacrifices mais aussi de persévérance, de calme et de lucidité de tout un peuple ? Omar Diop Blondin, Ibnou Diop, Omar Daff, Alhouseyni Cissé, seraient-ils morts pour rien ? "Et si Latif avait raison !" Il ne me restait plus qu'à retrouver les résonances et les traces de cette appétence de pouvoir qui gangrène la conscience des hommes ici bas.

Met het boek "Wade, un opposant au pouvoir" van Abdou Latif Coulibaly als uitgangspunt, onderzoekt de cineast het functioneren van de Senegalese democratie. Velen denken dat de regimewissel van 2000 niets aan de zeden heeft veranderd. Hooguit is er sprake van een versnelling in het tempo waarin de grondstoffen en rijkdommen van het land worden geplunderd. Deze plunderingsijver werd, terecht, veelvuldig aangeklaagd door de huidige machthebbers toen ze zelf nog in de oppositie zaten. Het wijdvertakte systeem van kleptocratie verschilt in niets van het Zaïre van Mobutu. Alleen viel er in Zaïre meer te jatten omdat het land meer natuurlijke rijkdommen heeft. Wat blijft er over van de dromen die door de machtswissel van 19 maart 2000 werden gevoed ?
