Dane, chauffeur pour une ONG humanitaire à N'Djamena mène une vie paisible avec sa jeune épouse Delphine qui attend un enfant, jusqu'au jour où il renverse Younous, un élève de 9 ans qui rentrait de l'école. Il emmène le garçon à l'hôpital et quand il revient le lendemain prendre des nouvelles, on lui annonce que l'enfant est mort.
Les parents de Younous réclament cinq millions de francs CFA pour avoir tué leur fils. Somme qui représente la Dia ou le prix du sang, sans quoi ils ôteront la vie à un membre de sa famille. Dane est enfermé et découvre en prison que son père a été assassiné pour avoir refusé de payer la Dia.
La communauté de son village se cotise pour payer la Dia. Après la prison Dane se trouve sans emploi et la vie de son couple menacé, il tombe dans la dépression. Rongé par la culpabilité, Dane est obsédé de retrouver Halimé la mère du petit Younous qu'il a tué, pour se faire pardonner.
Sur la trace de Halimé, il se retrouve à 800 km de N'djamena où il travaille comme chauffeur dans un camp des réfugiés. Là-bas il rencontre Younous, le jeune écolier qu'il a cru avoir tué accidentellement il y a 5 mois.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Dia, a practice that goes back to the time of the Old Testament, stems from the precept: "An eye for an eye for and a tooth for a tooth". It consists of compensating the victim's family for a crime, either by revenge or by agreement. It was intended to pacify society and to regulate, as a law, the violence in ancient societies. In Chad, where it is prevalent, it has become a source of social conflict, drama and business.
Dia is inspired by a true story, that of my cousin Ngaro: after having been duped and ruined in the name of the dia, he he took revenge by committing a heinous crime. He kept his crime of revenge a secret for a long time, but crushed by memory and remorse, he finally confided in me.
