Fils de colons portugais, Rui Pedro a très vite appris à distinguer deux réalités, celle des colons blancs et celle des indigènes, la culture européenne et la culture locale, celle du maître et celle de l’esclave, la violence et la paix. À l’âge de quatorze ans, envisageant la destruction inévitable de son enfance, Rui Pedro a dû choisir l’une des multiples rives de sa rivière.
