On behalf of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), I would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to all members of the Union, the media and stakeholders for their support for our just ended Congress which took place in Koforidua from Thursday October 29 to 31.

We greatly appreciate your support and well wishes and would like to assure you of our firmest commitment to working towards the development of the music industry for the benefit of musicians and ultimately the whole nation. Our theme for Congress “Developing the Music Industry in Ghana, the Role of an Effective Union” clearly emphasizes our commitment.

The Congress among other things amended our constitution to make it more responsive to the needs of our members with the expansion of participation in our conferences as well as the introduction of a biennial conference to allow for a more vigorous assessment of our progress before the quadrennial conference for elections.

A committee has been set up to continue deliberations on some of the proposals received at Congress such as introducing a universal suffrage where all paid up card bearing members of our Union will vote in the elections of national executives of the Union. The recommendations from this committee will be discussed at our next conference in 2017 for possible adoption and implementation.

The elections itself resulted in the re-election of the incumbent President Bice Osei Kuffour and the National Organizer and the election of the following as executives unopposed: Deborah Freeman, General Secretary; Bessa Simons, 1st Vice President; Rev Dr Thomas Yawson, 2nd Vice President; Benedict Kolan, National Welfare Officer and Samuel Agyeman, Treasurer.

It is our fervent hope that the contestants who lost the vote will team up with the new executives for the benefit of the Musicians Union of Ghana.
