C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès du Dr Sibongile Khumalo, notre chanteur sud-africain emblématique et mondialement connu, affectueusement connu sous le nom de Ma’Mngoma (24 septembre 1957 – 28 janvier 2021).
Dr Sibongile Khumalo était un chanteur de jazz et d’opéra de renommée mondiale, dont la carrière s’est étendue sur plus de 30 ans.
Née à Soweto d’une dynastie musicale, Khumalo était la fille de Grace et du professeur Khabi Mngoma.
Khumalo a commencé son parcours musical à l’âge de huit ans et a été propulsée sous les feux de la rampe lorsqu’elle a remporté le Standard Bank Young Artist Award au Grahamstown Arts Festival en 1993. Son illustre carrière a vu la sortie de plusieurs albums salués par la critique et récompensés par des prix, et elle a participé à de nombreux événements prestigieux, tant au niveau local qu’international.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Sibongile Khumalo our iconic, world-celebrated South African singer, affectionately known as Ma’Mngoma (24 September 1957 – 28 January 2021).
Dr Sibongile Khumalo was a world-renowned jazz and opera vocalist with a career spanning over 30 years.
Born in Soweto from a musical dynasty, Khumalo was the daughter of Grace and Professor Khabi Mngoma.
Khumalo began her musical journey at the tender age of eight, and was launched into the limelight when she won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award at the Grahamstown Arts Festival in 1993. Her illustrious career saw her release several critically acclaimed and award winning albums and graced a variety of prestigious events both locally and internationally.
