Havana. – The Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Centre, sponsored by the Office of the Historian of Havana City, the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, the COSUDE – Office of Swiss Cooperation in Cuba and the collaboration of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC, after its initials in Spanish) and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry (ICAIC, after its initials in Spanish) is calling to the X Hall and Colloquium of Digital Art, with the aim of promoting artistic and cultural values boosted by the new technologies.
The Hall, to be opened the 3 of November 2009 proposes to continue showing the work currently made in that field and boost the Exchange and reflection among the creators and specialists related with this new artistic expression. The actions of the X Hall and Colloquium will also be useful to celebrate and thank the contribution given by the community of Cuban and foreign digital artists to this cultural project for a decade.
This edition of the event will include the celebration of the national hall, with competitive character, colloquiums, exhibitions and audio visual showings by international artists that have accompanied the adventure of this hall since its start in 1999.
In this tenth edition, the hall will also include exhibitions and showings, related with digital photography and graphic design, fields that are related with the projections and searches of digital art among us, that has also found diffusion and debate spaces in the Pablo Centre during these years.
National Hall
Can tease part printed and audio visual works with free topic, which have been created using digital technologies.
Printed Works
Works to be presented must have been made using digital supports and reproduced through any kina of impression on any medium. This call does not include the presentation of installations.
Each participant can present up to three printed works no bigger than 50×61 cm, (with a maximum of six pieces). Besides the printed work, the participant must present the digital image in high resolution (300 dpi) in original size, in CD or DVD and in low resolution (72 dpi and 640×480 px), accompanied by a Word text with the following information:
Name and Surname of the author.
Profession.
Address.
Telephone.
E-mail address.
Associated institution to which the author belongs.
Brief CV (maximum 250 words).
Description of each work presented: title, year, software with which it was created, size (cm).
The back of each piece must include the following information:
Name and Surname of the author
Title.
Order number, in case of a series.
X Salón A.D.
Works must be delivered to the Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau (Calle de la Muralla No. 63, La Habana Vieja) befote the 18 of September 2009.
Audio visual works
This category includes audio visual and interactive works made with digital medium. This call does not include the presentation of multimedia or installations.
Each participant can present up to three works in DVD in NTSC. They must also submit a fixed image in high resolution (300 dpi) and in low resolution (72 dpi and 640×480 px).
They audio visual works must be accompanied by a text file with the following information:
Name and Surname of the author.
Profession.
Address.
Telephone.
E-mail address.
Associated institution to which the author belongs.
Brief CV (maximum 250 words).
Description of each work presented: title, year, software with which it was created, size (cm).
Works must be delivered to the Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau (Calle de la Muralla No. 63, La Habana Vieja) befote the 18 of September 2009.
Awards
For the printed category:
First price: a computer.
Second price: a scanner.
Third price: a printer.
For the audio visual category:
First Price: a computer.
Second price: a scanner.
Third price: a printer.
The jury, made by artists and specialists of recognised international prestige, which decision will be unappealable, will be able also to give honour mentions they consider in both categories. The awards will be delivered the 16 of November 2009, on the opening day of the Hall.
The event calls the participants to donate the copies of the presented printed and audio visual works, which will be placed at the web site of the IX Hall and will be able to be spread in showings and exhibitions, without any profitable end, as part of the promotion of the event.
Digital Art Colloquium
At the same time, between the 4 and the 6 of November, will be held the Colloquium 10 Years in Favour of Imagination and Beauty, in which will be held a critical balance of this first decade of Cuban digital art and will debate the works awarded in the Hall as well as other presented by participant artists and specialist. The Colloquim has the purpose to continue, as in previous editions, the reaches and development of these new forms of artistic creation among us, strengthening the creative collaboration links with artists from other parts of the world.
The presentations must be presented at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Centre or sent by e-mail before the 30 of September 2009, accompanied by the following information:
Name and Surname of the author.
Title and synopsis of the presentation (maximum of 300 words)
Profession.
Address.
Telephone.
E-mail address.
Associated institution to which the author belongs.
Brief CV (maximum 250 words).
Membership fee
The general membership fee for the Colloquium is 50 Cuban Pesos for participants who live in the island, who should pay it at the Centre, a week before the event.
