50 ans de cinéma égyptien
A week-long Egyptian Film Festival will take place at Cinema Nouveau in the Pretoria Brookly Mall, starting on 24 January.

Egypt has built a strong art cinematic tradition since the early 1930s. Egypt's cinema's influence on the Arabs is as profound as that of the American cinema on the rest of the world. That is why Cairo has become known as the "Hollywood" of the Middle East.

This year's festival contains films produced over five decades and cinema goers will be able to see the development and growth of Egyptian filmmaking. To enhance the experience for the South African audience, three short films, demonstrating producers' skills, will be featured during the film festival.

Entrance is FREE and patrons are advised to collect tickets at least one hour before the start of the festival.
