Succes for the grand opening ceremony
July the 24th 2010 was the grand opening ceremony of the annual Pan African Dance Festival (FESPAD).The festival started 5 years ago with the influence of Mr. Emmanuel Bugingo under the patronage of the Rwanda Ministry of Culture and Sports.
This event was introduced to Rwanda with a major objective of bringing together performers from different countries of the world to showcase their cultures in the country.
Since it’s inauguration in 2005, FESPAD has proven to be Rwanda’s biggest cultural event bringing a big number of widely known artists including musicians, dancers, poets and painters from different parts of Africa and the world across.
More than 30 countries participated in this year’s FESPAD whereas for the first time the event also featured a beauty pageant dubbed Miss FESPAD 2010.
During past events, visual artists have been given an opportunity to paint live during the festival and exhibit their works in different venues around Kigali.
This year, Rwanda’s local painters, sculptors and photographers had yet another chance to exhibit their artwork at the big exhibition Hall at Hotel Laico Umubano Kigali and Shokola Lounge.
The 2010 event also features two conferences on art and culture.
Arterial Network in conjunction with Ishyo Arts Center organized a conference on Cultural Policy in Africa Forum that was held on Monday July 26th and OTF group together with Rwanda Development Board have organized a conference titled « Creative Economy ».
These two conferences aim was to promote art and culture through cultural diplomacy and advocacy.
The festival runs until the 31st July 2010.
