For the Cape town international Jazz Festival 2011
For the 9th year, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival presents its unique arts journalism training programme: ‘Reviving the Drumbeat’. Participants – journalists from all media – cover the curriculum of the national standard in specialist journalism, with the music beat as specialism. You’ll do intensely practical, mentored work based on the exciting run-up to the country’s premier jazz festival.

The course includes:
– A workbook containing the basic tool-kit needed to work as a music journalist
– Practical guidance on story ideas and research and writing techniques
– Opportunities (some exclusive) to network with role-players and attend relevant events

When you complete the course you’ll receive an attendance certificate. You’ll have covered the curriculum specified for the SAQA Unit Standard ‘Cover a Specialist Beat as a Journalist’ (117541). If you’re a newsroom intern or learner you’ll have stories to add to your assessment portfolio.
