The 2014 edition of Accra Jazz Festival will on Friday April 25 kick off with a performance by Franco Beninois trumpeter Nicolas Genest and the Ghanaian Keyboard whiz kid Victor Dey at the Alliance Française in Accra.
On Saturday April 26 the UK based Ghanaian writer / poet Nii Ayikwei Parkes will feature in a jazz / poetry night at the New Morning Arts Café while the Republic Bar and Grill will host an Apéro Jazz with Ghanaian guitarist Kyekyeku and Italian musician Tommi Quinci on Sunday April 27.
Ehalakasa poets alongside Dubai based spoken word guru Chief Moomen will take over “La Paillote Takpekpe” on Wednesday April 30 with spoken word over jazz at the Alliance Française.
Women will take centre stage on the same day at +233 Jazz Bar & Grill as Ofie Kodjoe, Brenda Joyce, Sandra Hudson and Michelle Mckinney-Hammond alongside Sound Factree will honour great women in jazz such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone among others.
A whole day of Jazz with Dr. Royal Hartigan and Jazz Tone Production will on Thursday May 1rock the Best Western Hotel in Accra. 251 Jazz Band, Dela Botri & Hewale Sounds, Sound Factree and guests will also entertain fans at +233 Jazz Bar on the same day while live DJs and a number of bands will perform a jazz fusion at the same venue on Friday May 2.
Franco Congolese quintet Na Biso, which is noted for rumba and saxophone improvisations, will on Saturday May 3 end the festival with a performance tribute to the Congolese guitar virtuoso Franco Luambo at the Alliance Française in Accra.
Sound and light / studio sound recording workshops by Christophe Laforêt and Colter Harper will take place during the festival, which is being supported by Institut Français, French Embassy in Accra, Alliance Française Africolor, Archi Music and others.
