Pomona Quarry will on Friday July 4, 2014 come to life with the Open Air Visual Arts exhibition.

The exhibition being put together by Inside out Harare will showcase 'The Guardians of Stone' by Eric Gauss and 'Daily Life' by Tsvangirayi Mukwazhi as well as portraits of sculptors from Tengenenge Village.

Zimbo Jam caught up with event organiser Odette who spoke on Gauss and Mukwazhi subtitles for the exhibition "The Guardians of the Stone is a tribute to artists who despite economic challenges keep their spirit intact and make the stone alive through their hammer and chisel.

The portraits were made in Tengenenge, an African village in the North of Zimbabwe, the village is an open air gallery, and the particularity is that the occupation of the inhabitants is all Stone sculptors of all ages."

Mukwazhi chose Daily Life because life is about family, friends and doing the things you love.

"We wake up every day to go to work while others spend time at home, others will be on the streets selling different items from fruits and vegetables to used clothes. Such is the nature of Zimbabwean daily life that everyone finds solace and a peace of mind in doing something that helps sustain their families.

"Everyone goes about their business in manners that intertwines and not interfere with others while at the same time building a conjugal relationship among Zimbabweans as they go about their everyday lives," said Odette on Mukwazhi's work.

The project 'Inside out Harare' is a global art project which aims at transforming messages of personal identity into works of art and is designed to encourage people of Zimbabwe to speak out with one voice.
