The annual Midlands Arts and Culture Festival (MACfest) has been postponed.

MACfest creative director Joe Wailer confirmed that the festival which was set to run from September 15 to 20 has been postponed.

The festival creative director Joe Wailer has confirmed the changes.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control we have since decided to move the dates because of logistical hurdles that need to be sorted out first,” said Wailer.

“Details of when the festival will be taking place will be communicated to you soon.

“The program is still the same and the festival will still be held in Gweru at three venues namely, the Midlands State University, Cathedral Church and the main stage will be at Midlands Hotel.”

"Major highlights this year will be a debut by 2010 Oscar award winner, Prudence Mabhena, Carl Joshua Ncube, a Tongai Moyo documentary and a story reading session by the Czech Republic Embassy,"  continued Wailer,” he revealed.

The festival was started in 2008 as a way to help decrease the number of artistes who migrated to Harare in search of a better environment to develop their craft.

Each year the event is graced by close to 200 artists.

The festival programme caters for youths, women, prisoners and artists with disabilities and it is a multi-disciplinary festival encompassing, music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literal arts and film.

The festival is registered under the NACZ in 2010 as Midlands Arts and Culture Festival coordinated by Midlands Arts and Culture Centre.

The festival is funded by the Culture Fund Trust, it is a four day festival that showcases music, dance, drama, storytelling, poetry and visual arts and crafts, and is held on the last week of September annually
