The Zimbabwe German Society (ZGS) will on Thursday September 25 launch the ZGS Book club.

The book club which will be held on the last Thursday of every month, will see people coming to discuss a book that they would have read and express their opinions, what they liked and disliked about the book.

The main objective of the club is to create and develop a reading culture in the country.

“The book club is a way of trying to get members together and discuss literature, it is also to promote reading amongst individuals,” said ZGS librarian Sindi as she spoke to Zimbo Jam.

“We saw it as a way of also marketing the library so that our members can make use of the library,” added Sindi.

The book club is open to ZGS members but the first meeting is open to everyone, and if they feel they want to continue being part of the club they will then have to be a ZGS member.

The books that will be discussed will be selected from a wide range of literature.

“We will be alternating between Zimbabwean, German and African literature, after each meeting we will discuss briefly for any reading suggestions. For example, this month we are doing Zimbabwean literature the following meeting will be German literature.

“The first discussion to be held at the society will be on a book titled ‘Destiny’ by Virginia Phiri a Zimbabwean writer and the book is also available for loan at the ZGS library,” added Sindi.

The Zimbabwe German Society library is open to interested people and a subscription of US for the general public and US for artistes is enough to subscribe for a full year.
