The country’s hip hop star Tay Grin, real name Limbani Kalilani, has opened the New Year on a high note as he has been named among the 100 most influential global high profile personalities.
The artist, famed for the hit ‘2 by 2,’ was over the moon yesterday saying this has come at a time he is still celebrating the success of the year 2014, which he described as incredible.
Last year the musician toured Europe and also won the prestigious 2014 Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (Beffta) awards after he got two nominations.
Tay Grin, who has collaborated with several local and international musicians and interacted with Madonna, last year also triumphed in the Best International African Act. He also received a nomination in the Best Music Video.
The artist, who is also an entrepreneur, was named in C.Hub Magazine 100 most influential people in the world at number 82.
The artist said to be named among influential people in the world and was something worth celebrating that this appeals not only to him but the country.
Other high profile personalities on the list are Simon Cowell, Formula One champion Lewi s Hamilton, US First Lady Michelle Obama, Lord Alan Sugar, Hillary Clinton, Sir Trevor Mc Donald and South Africa’s singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
“It’s such a great honour to be regarded as one who influences change. And with this great honour comes great responsibilities. I would like to use this opportunity to influence change for my people,” he said.
The artist said he was thankful to God for this as “He is my life’s captain and He is responsible for my achievements.”
He said this will motivate him to do more for the country and that this was the beginning for more things to come.
Tay Grin also revealed that he is in the middle of launching a new foundation to empower the people of Malawi to rise above poverty.
The foundation due to launch shortly is called Tay Grin Community Empowerment Foundation.
