THIS IS NOT CRICKET is a feature length documentary project. We are raising funds through Aflamnah to be able to start filming as the story unfolds. The 2015 cricket season is fast approaching…
In Rome, two friends are rebuilding their undefeated cricket team that broke up due to pressure from social and religious issues.
SYNOPSIS
Immigrants in Italy are under siege from increasingly violent xenophobic demonstrations and punishing laws. European austerity measures hit society, fanning the fire of intolerance.
Two adolescents in Rome, Shince from India and Fernando from Italy set out to rebuild their cricket team with a singular political vision to combat fascism, to integrate young people, and to play cricket. Their team was the strongest under 18s club in Italy, until it was forced to disband by the same problems they are determined to overcome: religious and social discrimination.
The Piazza Vittorio Cricket club adopted the colours of Anarchy for their kit to symbolise their political and social status as outsiders and their fight for social equality.
Cricket, the second most popular sport in the world, is emblematic of the post-modern questions globalization raises. This Is Not Cricket will highlight those issues personified through the players and their maverick coach.
We track the players on and off the field. They recruit new players they have to train hard together to beat the numerous teams that will compete in the championships. Their united team spirit empowers them as they contend on a daily basis, with their families, education and work, but mostly for their place in Italian society.
