Hotels association celebrates with awards ceremony

The Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) last Saturday, January 23, climaxed the celebration of its 40th anniversary with an awards event at the La Palm Beach Hotel in Accra under theme: Promoting Quality Standards in Ghana Hotels.
Hotel owners, managers and all categories of hotels staff were recognised and awarded for excelling in various aspects of service delivery.
Barima Adjei Twinin, CEO of Mac Dic Royal Plaza Hotel won the Lifetime Achievement award while Dr. Ackah Nyamekeh, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, of the GHA, was adujdged the Best Regional Chairman of the Year.
Other award winners included Mr. Kwame Bamfo, CEO of Alisa Hotels who won the Best Hotelier of the Year award and Sechi Royal Hotel, which also won the Best Hotel award.
The GHA was formed in 1975 by a few hotel proprietors. It currently has over 1000 members. It is the apex body of the hotel industry in Ghana ranging from small guest houses, budget hotels, motels and other facilities ranging from one- star to five-star categories.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Herbert Acquaye, the GHA national president congratulated all members and the executive for the sacrifices they keep making for the association.
“The GHA has grown its corporate membership over the 40 years. It is now time to create an individual category of membership through training and certification, ” he said.
Guests at the awards ceremony, which was graciously chaired by the La Manste, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, were entertained to musical performances by the Les Femmes all-female band, the Wusa Wusa Dance Company and jazz saxophonist, Jimmy Beckley.
