The Commonwealth Press Union (CPU) is currently accepting nominations for its 2002 Astor Award.
The award is presented annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to press freedom or to the promotion of the Commonwealth newspaper industry.
The prestigious award, one of the oldest of its type, was created in memory of Lord Astor of Hever, a former president of the CPU. The 2002 Award will be presented by the current Lord Astor of Hever, son of the former president, at the official opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Editors’ Forum and CPU Biennial Conference in Sri Lanka on October 6.
Nominations for the award must be received by August 31 and must include the name of the nominee, details about their newspaper, and a brief paragraph stating why they should be nominated. All nominations should be sent to Lindsay Ross, CPU press freedom director at [email protected] or fax +44 207 583 6868.
For more information on the Astor Award, visit the CPU Web site.
