Cette 20ème édition est dédiée à notre ami Claude Peytermann, compagnon de nombreuses luttes et complice de nombreux moments musicaux.
Festival pionnier des musiques du monde, les Nuits Atypiques de Langon, enracinées en terre occitane sont réputées pour leur esprit de découverte, d’ouverture, et leur engagement altermondialiste.
Reconnues comme un lieu alternatif d’échange, de rencontre et de débat, qui conjugue identité et altérité, musique et politique, les Nuits Atypiques ont toujours valorisé les singularités artistiques et la diversité culturelle et linguistique. Elles sont devenues au fil des ans un carrefour unique des cultures du monde où se mêlent musique, chant, danse, cinéma, débats.
Sur les bords de la Garonne, à l’ombre des grands arbres du Parc des Vergers ou sous un ciel garni d’étoiles, ces 20èmes Nuits atypiques seront belles, tendres, poétiques, humaines, fraternelles, joyeuses et festives !
Elles vont chalouper « très très fort » avec la musique urbaine des Congolais du Staff Benda Bilili, musiciens handicapés des rues de Kinshasa; elles exprimeront un désir de révolution africaine avec l’Ivoirien Tiken Jah Fakoly ; elles danseront avec les steel-band, ces orchestres de bidons nés des rebuts de l’industrie pétrolière, notamment avec le Renegades Steel Orchestra, steel-band mythique de Trinidad-et-Tobago, capable de jouer aussi bien des calypsos traditionnels que l’Ave Maria de Schubert… Elles donneront la parole à Sivan Perwer, la grande voix du peuple kurde, en exil depuis trente-cinq ans ; elles seront percutantes avec le Tambour Quartet réunissant autour du tambourin quatre artistes exceptionnels : Carlo Rizzo (Italie), Ravi Prasad (Inde), Paul Mindy (Brésil) et Adel Shams el Din (Egypte), et avec deux maîtres djembé du Burkina Faso et de Guinée Lamine Sanou & Mohamed Bangoura. Elles chanteront aussi en occitan (et en brésilien) avec Moussu T. e lei Jovents, et La Talvera qui a élaboré un projet commun avec Silverio Pessoa intitulée « ForrOccitània », mêlant langues, musiques et instruments du Nordeste brésilien et d’Occitanie. L’extinction des lampions de la fête sera confiée à Pad Brapad, qui mélange, avec humour et énergie, musique tzigane et klezmer, électro et hip-hop.
En ces temps de mondialisation marchande et de montée des extrémismes, cette 20ème édition entend continuer d’affirmer les valeurs fondatrices des Nuits Atypiques (partage, échange, dialogue, justice, équité, émancipation), et dénoncer les impasses du toujours plus de la société de surconsommation.
A Langon, pas de musique sans débat ou sans cinéma. Cette 20ème édition est aussi nourrie de rencontres et de projections.
Le lundi 25 juillet, sera organisé, en prélude, la 3ème édition du Forum des langues de France.
Le jeudi 28 sera une journée spéciale consacrée au steel-band et aux pratiques amateurs ;
Le vendredi 29 seront projetés les films « Benda Bilili » suivi d’une rencontre avec le groupe, et « D’une rive à l’autre« , documentaire sur le commerce d’essence que sont autorisés à faire les handicapés au risque de leur vie entre les deux Congos, suivi d’un débat avec le réalisateur Delphe Kifouani.
Le samedi 30 proposera une rencontre avec le chanteur kurde Sivan Perwer, puis la projection de Tiken Jah Fakoly « viens voir » suivie d’un débat en présence du réalisateur Jessy Nottola.
Outre leur festival estival, les Nuits Atypiques ont généré en 20 ans un festival frère au Burkina Faso (Les Nuits Atypiques de Koudougou), un label discographique (daquí), un festival d’automne (les Nuits d’Aquitaine), un Forum des langues de France, la production de films à contre-courant, l’édition de livres, de belles complicités locales, nationales et internationales, du Larzac à Bamako…
A Langon, pas de musique sans éthique, pas de diversité sans citoyenneté. Interroger son époque, réfléchir plutôt que subir, agir plutôt que gémir, et dans un même élan danser et penser. La belle aventure des Nuits Atypiques continue. Bienvenue à Langon pour cette 20ème édition.

From the 28th to the 30th of July, 2011
A world-wide musics’ pioneer festival, Langon’s Atypical Nights, rooted in Occitanian earth, are known for their discovering, open spirit and their international engagement.
Recognized as a place of exchange, meetings and debates, that unifies identity and alterity, music and politic, the Atypical Nights have always put forward artistically singularities and cultural and linguistic diversity. Throughout the years, they became a unique meeting of world-wide cultures, mixing music, singing, dancing, cinema and debates.
On the shores of the Garonne, in the shade of the tall trees in the Parc des Vergers or under a star-strewn sky, this 20th edition of the Atypical Nights promise to be beautiful, tender, poetic, human, fraternal, joyous and festive!
They will swing « very, very hard » with the urban music of the Congolese Staff Benda Bilili, handicapped musicians from the streets of Kinshasa; they will show a desire of African revolution with the Ivorian Tiken Jah Fakoly; they will dance with the steel-band, these oil drum orchestras born from the petroleum industry, represented by the Renegades Steel Orchestra, mythical steel-band from Trinidad-and-Tobago, capable of playing traditional calypsos as well as Schubert’s Ave Maria… They will let Sivan Perwer speak, the great Kurdish voice, exiled for thirty-five years now; they will have an impact with the Tambour Quartet, bringing four amazing artists around the tambourin: Carlo Rizzo (Italy), Ravi Prasad (India), Paul Mindy (Brazil) and Adel Shams el Din (Egypt), and with two djembe masters from Burkina Faso and Guinea, Lamine Sanou and Mohamed Bangoura. They will also sing in Occitan (and in Brazilian) with Moussu T. e lei Jovents, and La Talvera, who elaborated a common project with Silverio Pessoa called « ForrOccitania », mixing languages, musics and instruments from the Northeast Region in Brazil, and Occitania. The responsibility of the lanterns’ extinction will be given to Pad Brapad, who mixes, with humor and energy, tzigane and klezmer music, electro and hip-hop.
In these days of merchant world-wideness and growth in extremism, this 20th edition is determined to reaffirm the Atypical Nights’ fundamental values (share, exchange, dialogue, justice, equitability, emancipation), and to denounce the problems of the society of overconsumption.
In Langon, there’s no music without debates or cinema. This 20th edition is also filled with meetings and movie projections. On Monday, 25th of July, will be organized, as a starters, the 3rd edition of the Language Forum of France. Thursday the 28th will be a special day for steel-band and unexperienced performances. On Friday the 29th, the movie « Benda Bilili », followed by a meeting with the group, and « D’une rive à l’autre », a documentary on gas commerce that handicapped people are allowed to do at their risks and perils between the two Congo, followed by a debate with the director Delphe Kifouani. Saturday the 30th will offer to meet the Kurdish singer Sivan Perwer, then the projection of Tiken Jah Fakoly « Viens voir » followed by a debate with the director Jessy Nottola. In addition to its estival festival, Atypical Nights has created in 20 years a brother festival at the Burkina Faso (the Atypical Nights of Koudougou), a sound recording label (daqui), an autumn festival (the Aquitaine Nights), a Language Forum of France, some against-the-current movie productions, book publishing, nice local, national and international complicities, some Larzac at Bamako…
In Langon, there’s no music without ethics, no diversity without citizenship. To question one’s time, to think instead of undergo, to act instead of moan, and at the same time dance and think. Atypical Nights’ marvelous adventure continues. Welcome to Langon for this 20th edition!
